Getting started

Does the plugin optimize all existing images immediately after installation?

No. Existing Media Library images are not automatically bulk-optimized when you install or activate the plugin. Run Analyze Library and explicitly start Bulk Optimizer when you are ready.

Is the plugin a WordPress theme or a plugin?

It is a WordPress plugin. Upload its ZIP in Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin, activate it, and use the Image Optimizer admin menu.

What is the default image quality on a new site?

Fresh installations start with an Image Quality value of 70%. A recommended setup also uses WebP and a 2000 × 2000 pixel maximum resolution.

Can I close the setup recommendation popup?

Yes. Click Skip for Now or the close button. Dismissing the popup does not start image conversion or apply new settings. You can reopen it in Settings.

What versions of WordPress and PHP are supported?

The plugin readme lists WordPress 6.0 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer. Output format support also depends on the image-processing libraries available on your server.

Does it work with Elementor?

The page scanner recognizes supported Elementor image and background references stored as local Media Library attachments. Some dynamic or external images may not be resolved.

Formats & quality

Which output formats can I choose?

You can select WebP, AVIF, JPEG or PNG, provided that your hosting server can write the chosen format.

Does AVIF work on every WordPress server?

No. AVIF creation requires compatible local encoder support. The plugin checks writer availability and can report unsupported formats. WebP may be an alternative.

Does a lower Image Quality percentage mean more compression?

For lossy outputs such as JPEG, WebP and AVIF, generally yes: lower Image Quality percentages apply stronger compression, with visual trade-offs. Higher percentages favor detail. PNG uses lossless compression effort instead.

Will PNG lose image quality if I lower the percentage?

PNG output remains lossless in the plugin workflow. Its percentage controls compression effort rather than reducing visual pixel quality. File size savings depend on the actual image.

Can I limit image resolution?

Yes. Configure maximum width and maximum height. Oversized images are reduced proportionally and smaller images are not upscaled.

Can I exclude certain source image formats?

Yes. Advanced options allow include-only or exclude-selected input formats, including JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, HEIC and HEIF.

What happens to animated GIFs?

Animated GIFs are protected from unsafe conversion that could flatten the animation into a single still frame.

Can I optimize an image again with a new quality setting?

Yes. Manual or page-level re-optimization can run again when format, Image Quality or maximum resolution changes. An exact matching profile may be skipped to avoid needless recompression.

Analyze, page & bulk optimization

What is Dry Run / Analyze?

Dry Run evaluates eligible or skipped images and estimated output size using temporary processing where applicable. It is designed not to replace live attachments or create optimization history and rollback snapshots.

Can I optimize only images on one specific page?

Yes. Use Optimize by Page to scan a page, post or supported public custom post type, then choose the images to optimize from the detected local Media Library attachments.

Which images can the page scanner detect?

It looks for featured images, common WordPress content/image markup, Gutenberg image and gallery references, local Media Library URLs and supported Elementor image/background data.

Will optimizing an image from one page affect another page?

Potentially. WordPress attachments are shared resources. If the same attachment is used on multiple pages, changing it can affect all of those uses.

Will it optimize images hosted on another website or CDN?

No. Page scanning can identify external image references, but the plugin does not silently download or modify remote-only files.

How do I start a bulk optimization?

Go to Bulk Optimizer, review settings and optionally run Analyze Library. Click Start Bulk Optimization when you explicitly want to process the existing Media Library.

Does the progress bar update without refreshing?

The admin dashboard uses live status updates and a secure worker flow to show processed, converted and skipped counts. Server timeouts or hosting constraints can still delay individual jobs.

Can I pause or cancel a bulk run?

Yes. The Bulk Optimizer provides pause, resume and cancel controls, although a currently running image operation may need to finish its safe processing slice.

Why are some images skipped?

Possible reasons include an identical optimization profile, an animated GIF, an unsupported format writer, memory safeguards, source policy rules or a generated file that does not meet the configured savings threshold.

Backups, performance & privacy

Can I undo an optimization?

When a valid retained snapshot is available, you can restore a previous image state in History & Rollback. A short-lived Undo action may also appear after certain single-image operations.

How many rollback points are supported?

The versioned rollback system can retain up to three pre-optimization states per attachment, depending on retention configuration and available storage.

Can I restore an entire bulk run?

Yes. Bulk Runs can include Restore This Run. The plugin aims to revert successful conversions while skipping missing backups and images changed after that run.

If I flush temporary backups, will current images be deleted?

The backup-flush action is intended to remove plugin-owned snapshots rather than your current live Media Library files. You will lose restore points that were deleted.

Where do temporary previews and rollback copies live?

They are stored in plugin-managed locations on your WordPress server. They occupy storage and may be included in your host or site backups.

Does the plugin send images to an external image optimization API?

No external image processing API is required by the plugin. It relies on local server encoder capabilities and bundled browser-side helper assets.

Does the plugin itself use analytics or tracking cookies?

The plugin documentation states it does not send conversion analytics or image files to United Web Host and does not create tracking cookies. Your WordPress site and hosting provider may separately collect logs or use other services.

Can optimizing images improve website speed or SEO rankings?

Smaller images may reduce transfer size and improve some loading experiences, but the outcome depends on caching, layout, image delivery and hosting. SEO ranking or PageSpeed score improvements are not guaranteed.

What if the site slows down while optimizing?

Pause the job, reduce simultaneous heavy server tasks and check server resources and PHP error logs. Image conversion can be CPU and memory intensive on limited hosting.

Is the installation ZIP included on this website?

Yes. The Download Plugin buttons on this site provide the bundled v3.0.1 installer. The site itself is a separate documentation and product website.
